Shambhala Day marks the beginning of the New Year, and is one of the most important holidays of the Shambhala mandala. Based on the traditional Tibetan New Year's celebration of Losar, the day is calculated astrologically according to the Tibetan lunar calendar, falling this year on February 16. This is a time for us to express the wealth and richness of our spiritual and cultural heritage through feasting, conviviality and elegance.

The St. Johnsbury Shambhala community is cheerfully invited to participate in celebrations at Karmê Chöling in Barnet, VT on February 16. On that day, Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche will addresses the worldwide Shambhala Community via a live online broadcast.

Many local Shambhala Centers plan activities throughout the week following the New Year’s Day, and ours will be on Sunday, February 18. Everyone is warmly invited to celebrate Shambhala Day 2018 and the Year of the Earth Dog at the St. Johnsbury Shambhala Center.  Here's the tentative schedule:

11:00Re-set the shrine room following Sunday Sitting; coffee and bagels
11:30Lhasang and throwing of the I-Ching to forecast the year for the St. Johnsbury Shambhala Center
12:15Brief community gathering, welcoming of new Center members and new Council members
