In the world of truthiness and fake news, avatars and aliases, it can be hard to find anything reliable. We can’t really trust others and we even begin to lose trust in ourselves. It is easy to lose heart, but even so, there are still glimpses of openness and confidence. The Buddhist teachings encourage such glimpses and challenge us to continue to search for what is genuine and true. They lay out a map for doing so and give us all that we need to get going and to progress.

In this seminar, we will examine key elements of the Buddhist path Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche laid out for his students. We will explore the essential teachings and methods of each of the three traditional stages of the path—the hinayana, mahayana, and vajrayana—which the Tibetan Buddhist teachings spell out in great detail.

With each yana we will ask:

  • What is its central challenge?
  • How is this challenge addressed?
  • Where does it lead?

This seminar will be based on teachings from the three volumes of The Profound Treasury of the Ocean of Dharma by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche.

Seating is limited  - we are delighted to be hosting teacher, author and editor Judith Lief in-person at the Shambhala Meditation Center of St. Johnsbury, and we encourage you to register early to reserve your place.  Lunch will be provided at the Center on Saturday, as well as a light reception each evening.  On Sunday, participants may bring a brown-bag lunch or go out locally for lunch.
